Naples via Tamiami Trail 061210

Great ride with friends, we were four bikes and a well-planned itinerary. Tamiami Trail, via Four Corners to Clyde Butcher's Big Cypress Gallery, then a drive-by on the Skunk Ape Research Center and time to relax on the porch of Joanie's Blue Crab Cafe. Met the 'gator who lives in the swamp behind the kitchen, drank some cold ones from the cooler and shared a few stories with Jack. Great place to stop. A quick ride (ha! Lauren, yes, we should have walked!) to the smallest post office in the U.S. at Ochopee.

Lunch in Everglades City at the Seafood Depot. Then up 29 to the Naples Beach and Golf Resort, with a quick stop at the Iron Rhino. My impression: the Rhino was just too clean. More like a Greek restaurant than a biker bar ...

An afternoon of sun and pool, with drinks from the beach bar, dinner at HP's and the next morning relaxing in the beach with breakfast and beers. Perfect antidote to a hot afternoon ride the day before.

But the excitement wasn't over. Here is how David and Anne got back to Fort Lauderdale:

Sometimes, shit just happens. Thankfully we were just pulling out of the toll plaza on 75 ... no crisis, just a hassle and the most expensive souvenir of the trip: new tires.

I need to get more space on Flickr ... more photos to come! NOTE -- okay, done deal!
